Antimicrobial Stewardship during the COVID-19 Pandemic

On 23rd November, we welcomed Elizabeth Beech, Regional Antimicrobial Stewardship Lead, South West Region from NHS England and NHS Improvement, to present on Antimicrobial Stewardship during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The COVID-19 pandemic has presented numerous additional challenges for health professionals managing patients with infections. Now, more than ever, raising awareness of the risks of antimicrobial resistance remains important as we continue to work together to prevent serious infections – including COVID-19 as well optimising appropriate antibiotic use.

The PrescQIPP Antimicrobial Stewardship Hub already provides open access to primary care antibiotic prescribing data to support local antimicrobial stewardship improvement.

During World Antimicrobial Awareness Week 2020 PrescQIPP published a new data dashboard to support antimicrobial stewardship activity during COVID-19 pandemic times. Elizabeth presented the data and also advised on making the best use of it.

The presentation was followed by a Q & A session
